99 and counting

Saw a dead squirrel in my garden

Watched my grandpa die this morning

He was ninety-nine and counting

Had his family around him

Something profound hit me

I was ready to die at fifteen

Think my cat really would have missed me

Thought the guy of my dreams would fix me

But some things just take time

Sometimes, there's no sign

Swallowed a fly at the studio

That would've broke me a year ago

Think I'm starting to grow a backbone

Now, I'm learning to let things let go

And I was thinking about Hiroshima

And my heart sank a little deeper

There's a darkness inside most people

We're the same, but some are more equal

And some things just take time

Sometimes, there's no sign

Somehow, I chose right

So much more to life

I don't cry on the floor

Of my shower anymore

I don't starve myself

Don't slam my bedroom door

And I don't lie to my friends

When I'm planning out the end

I won't type a goodbye note
