Drowning in Memories

Memories they trace my footsteps,

They whisper, they roar

In dreams, in life, now dripping

Making mud of a dusty floor.

After all of the good I’ve chosen

Threw my life down in mercy’s name.

I can’t escape this torture

Only have myself to blame

I can feel the water rising up

It tugs it yearns to claw me down.

Swirling towards deep dark depths, no light or sound

And it always seems to creep in

Leaving me alone out in the deep end

I’m drowning in my memories,

But no one sees them

Memories they prowl in silence

When my mind can finally breathe

Each moment lay in waiting

For their depths to swallow me.

After all the time I’ve given

You’d think I’d finally find release
