With every song, Niko B proves that you don’t have to have a gripping story or flaunt your wealth to be a popular rapper. You just need to be relatable. Born Tom Austin in 2000, and taking his stage name from a Grand Theft Auto character, the Milton Keynes artist came up making music in his bedroom. Lockdown kicked things up a notch; he went viral in 2020 with his single “Who’s That What’s That,” a summer bop about copping Big Macs, showing up to school late, guzzling cheap drinks, and losing his wallet—you know, regular stuff. Niko makes silly songs about moments that seem abnormally normal. Another 2020 track, “Quick Drive,” details beating his high school crush in Xbox and scraping his knee playing hopscotch. His daily escapades might not blow your mind, but they’ll make you feel right at home.
