In the Heights

Every moment is just another slight of hand

Take it while you can and leave

Every memory is just like a photograph

That you cut in half and keep

Every night, bathed in the half-light

Way after midnight, there in the tide

In the heights of buildings in phosphorite

Wondering if you might move closer in time

Ever changed, there in an instant

By arrangement or transient, drifting away

In the haze, there in the distance

Long-since extinguished, glistening grey

Stays the same as it fades to black

And it's coming back to me
