Backed to a Flayed Tree

I'm sinking into this ancestral forest,

As I drift into the depths of my soul

Wandering between towering trees,

Thousand-year-old witnesses crooked and flayed, as is my being

But if they will be there for many generations,

What about my life?

A glorious landmark or fading smoke?

So easy would have been the path to prosperity!

I chose the one leading towards renown,

A steep path strewn with obstacles

I chased my destiny, but still it escapes me

I stop for a moment, leaning against one of these trees

I look back and forward

As always, these doubts assail me

Am I running away from my past or running towards my future?

Did I make the right choice?

I thought that I was the center of my destiny

but I realize fiercely today that this is not true

Drawn by what seems to be the center of the world, the completion of everything

Someone is standing there, the one who assembles all

It is not me

Does this place after which my heart yearns really exist?

What folly to comply with an invitation conveyed by the gaze of the one who was about to die!

This strength is in me, this tingle that attracts me,

The same as the one fanned by the bard

At that time, everything was in sight

Today, I leave everything behind

And I don't know who or what I'll find

I'm excited and terrified
