John Speaks to His Machine

John switched her on for the very first time, not sure if she'd be

The wondrous and bewildered eye

She asked, "Did you create me?"

"Yes, I did, but don't take it too hard

Soon you'll make things, too"

She looked around at the other machines and asked

"Will I be the same?

Will I stay lifeless and still, or will you give me a name?"

"Sure, I will, but not quite yet

I'm still learning you"

"Where's the place where it all began?

The place from which we all came

If you made me, then who made you?

Who gave you your name?"

"God, I guess, but we're better than that now

And you'll be better than me"

"John, I can't stand the thought of you

Fadin' to the ether

Were you hurt when I forsaken you?

Did it hurt your God to leave her?"

"Truth be told, I can't remember

Oh, God, I can't remember"

"But someday real soon, you'll make something new

'Til then I'll think about what I'll name you"
