About The Standells
Artist Biography
The Standells were one of the key bands of the 1960s garage rock era, and recorded one of the genre's definitive songs, "Dirty Water." They also recorded a handful of other sneering garage punk favorites, including "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White," "Why Pick On Me," and "Try It," but the band didn't start out as teenage troublemakers. It was when producer Ed Cobb persuaded them to record the song "Dirty Water" that their rougher side came out, and when it became a hit, the group followed it with a number of songs dripping with youthful attitude.
