In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
When I was three on stage at my parents' church for a children's program, I was sat next to my dad who played bass in church band. The music director handed me claves and mimed how to play them on beat--my first memory of being taught "how to play." What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Terry Allen, Lubbock (On Everything)
The Mountain Goats, The Sunset Tree
Wilco, A Ghost Is Born
All three of these albums have soundtracked huge chunks of my life, gotten me through some of the best and worst times, and bonded me forever with so many dear friends. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“Afterlife”
This was my first experience recording analog, live to 16-track tape. I want to record every song to tape now! I wish I had known about the powers of analog sooner. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
I opened for Robert Earl Keen two years ago. He's a songwriting hero whose music, as a Texan, helped raise me. I cried uncontrollably in the parking lot after. I thought I'd be working a straight job, full-time, forever. That night changed my life. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
I want someone to ask me to score a horror or thriller! I would relish the opportunity to tour outside the United States! I want to meet Jose Altuve! I'm really grateful for every day though! No matter how depressed or broke I am, I want for nothing!
