In the late 1990s when anthems were all the rage, Naif’s tongue-in-cheek retro pop and earnestness made them truly stand out. Playful lyricism and a delightfully off-kilter persona courtesy of charismatic frontman David Bayu grabbed headlines, but the secret of their success was their irresistible sing-alongs—see a string of hits including “Posessif”, “Air & Api” and “Benci Untuk Mencinta”. The Jakarta-based four-piece not only gained critical acclaim and commercial success but easily outlasted the era, solidifying themselves as one of the most quirky bands to grace the Indonesian mainstream.
