Two years after their inception, Jakarta band Kerispatih shifted their sound from ethnic Indonesian to more mainstream pop-rock balladry. The band’s 2005 album Kejujuran Hati debuted this new direction and became a massive, platinum-selling hit, filled with deeply confessional lyrics and soaring arrangements—elements that are ever-present in their subsequent releases. Original frontman Sammy Simorangkir’s ardent vocals haven’t been part of the band since 2010, but the brighter style of his replacement, Fandy Santoso, brings a new energy to classics like “Demi Cinta” and “Kejujuran Hati”.
Members of Kerispatih include, or have included, Badai and Sammy Simorangkir.
