Renowned for his work with Brian Eno and Coldplay, Grammy-nominated British electronic musician Jon Hopkins makes lush ambient music that often harks back to his roots in classical piano. Hopkins describes his music as “beats with melodies.”
• Hopkins started playing piano at age four or five and studied at the Royal College of Music as a teenager. He later successfully auditioned to join singer Imogen Heap’s backing band and toured with her throughout 1998.
• Through his friend Leo Abrahams, Hopkins met legendary producer Brian Eno, who would become a frequent collaborator. Hopkins played keyboard on Eno’s 2005 album Another Day on Earth.
• Eno, Abrahams, and Hopkins joined forces for the 2010 album Small Craft on a Milk Sea.
• With his third album, 2009’s Insides, Hopkins made the Top 20 of Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart in the US.
• Diamond Mine, his 2011 album with Scottish singer-songwriter King Creosote, was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Hopkins nabbed a second Mercury Prize nomination for his 2013 album Immunity.
• He’s produced and cowritten multiple songs for Coldplay, including the Eno collaboration “Life in Technicolor.” He has also worked with Purity Ring and David Lynch.
• His 2019 album Singularity went Top 10 in the UK and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album.
