About Jebediah
Artist Biography
The brash and breakneck alternative rock of Jebediah—named after the founder of The Simpsons’ town of Springfield—headed up the Australian portion of the mid-’90s global grunge wave. Formed in 1995 in Perth, the band tore up the dance floor of their high school prom with covers of bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam at their first show, before the 1996 single “Jerks of Attention”—a vicious slab of distorted slacker rock—established their abrasive but catchy sound. Their debut album, 1997’s Slightly Odway, was their breakthrough when it hit the Top 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart, but the follow-up, 2000’s Of Someday Shambles—with tracks like the pumping, Britpop-indebted “Animal”—is their highest-charting record to date. Jebediah, in 2002, turned things a bit wilder and heavier (see the bagpipes-powered “Fall Down”), and 2004’s Braxton Hicks continued the riffage, even on tracks like the dreamy “It’s Over.” In 2011, Kosciuszko found them going slightly softer, with lush, dreamy rock songs like the interstellar “She’s Like a Comet.”
