Formed in 1995 when the band’s four players met at a jam night, Lismore, Australia’s Grinspoon have explored a wide swath of gnarly, alternative rock sounds over their lengthy career. On their 1997 debut, Guide to Better Living, they made a splash with the breakneck punk of songs like “Just Ace,” while the follow-up, 1999’s Easy, brought sludgy post-grunge riffs on headbangers like “Rock Show (You Don’t Know Me).” And in 2002, soaring, orchestral single “Chemical Heart” signaled a more mainstream, high-production direction for the group. Heavy guitars and moods run through 2004’s punchy “Hard Act to Follow,” and 2007’s wild “Black Tattoo” cops heavy-metal brashness. Whatever the era, whatever the vibe, Grinspoon is meant to be played loud.
Members of Grinspoon include, or have included, Phil Jamieson, Pat Davern, and Joe Hansen.
