Blue Healer

Took a bad fall back in second grade

Broke three ribs and my right leg

Spent a few days in that old hospital bed

My mom and Dad know what I’d need

And had a big surprise at home for me

The kind to turn on eight-year-olds head

As I hobbled in she ran to me

One eye brown and the other green

Wagging her tail like there was no tomorrow

She was my blue healer

And she helped me get back on my feet

Somehow she knew I was hurting

I was pretty certain by the way she looked at me

She licked my face erased every trace of the blues

As I grew up she was growing old

She had my heart she had my soul

My senior prom seemed to come way too soon

When Becky broke my heart that night

My dog and I sat side by side

As I cried she was howling at the moon

She was my blue healer

And she helped me get back on my feet

But only one spitting image of my blue healer girl
