I once read a poem I think I was twenty-one

It was something about horses being born ready to run

And how love can sometimes take the same unquestionable nature

When it's so strong and sure I hear there's not a feeling greater

So I turned my attention to the places I might find

That very same affection in this life that I call mine

I looked for it in grand romances, I think I was misled

'Cause listen now, you'll never guess where I found it instead

Shannon's laugh, and in Hope's eyes

Joelle's bouquets, Ms Perth's goodbyes

Spring in Seoul when we were there last May

Tambourines, twelve-string guitars

The ride back home in Timmy's car

And all the things I feel but don't quite say

I'm pretty sure the world is ending

And there's no use in us pretending

Otherwise it's no surprise

But I'm so glad to be alive with you today

I spent most of last year trying to figure out my way

Making sense of what I'm meant to do and think and say

Just to find that maybe I'm not meant to know the answers

When I looked around and somehow found all of the things I'm after

In donut shops and paint-stained hands

Cousin nights, joint birthday plans

TV with my brother in the hall

Pan am shirts, Nintendo wars

And tuna on the kitchen floor

Electronic music room withdrawal

I'm pretty sure the world is ending

And there's no use in us pretending

Otherwise it's no surprise

But I'm so glad to be alive with you
