Who Am I When I'm Not Sad?

Ain't it weird that thinking about overthinking, It's still overthinking, shout out this overactive

Mind of mine I'm so used to being sad that I don't know

Who I am when I'm not It's time I figure it out

There's some things they don't tell you about healing

Like the person you become, the old one has to meet them

And the broken you that goes away, there's times where you grieve them

And the thought that you're just better is misleading

Like who am I when I'm not sad? What do I do with all this time

Am I bored or at peace? Remember times I was down bad

I thought that chaos was a part of it, it's so hard to get out of it

I had to go my own way, had to learn the hard way

God, I've had some hard days, but they get better always

The thing about pain is that it goes away I'm trusting God with all the things that I can't take

I was a pretty happy kid Despite the mental illness

Was never something I hid Until I went to school

And got bullied by other kids Who didn't know what mental illness is

How could they grade was 6th Got no resentment for it

And looking back, I'm probably better for it But it led to bad decisions

Just attempts at fitting in Then I got older, it got worse

The meds were kicking in Tried five or six till something clicked

The road was long and rigid Obsessive compulsive

Anxiety and depression's wicked Add the illness to some heartbreaks

Mix some liquor in it Spent some years just feeling numb

Dropped out of college Went on a 20 city run

Then I checked in a mental institute Did some therapy

Wrote sad songs just to get me through Then I found peace inside myself

But I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the strength of my younger self
