To Fade Quietly

I think something is wrong

I’m slowly coming to terms

This feeling’s what I deserve but I have never earned

I’m locking eyes with strangers and

Seeing their younger selves so afraid and lost

 I figured out the human condition

We are tied to the skin that we decline

Inner spark treated like a scar

Splitting under stress

No light under duress

 No light under duress

 I constantly wonder

 Lost inside

Losing time

Younger minds

Wishing the body to die

 I see through the keyhole

The door to your soul

Breathing in the mould

Oblivious to passages carved with old knives

Slide the blade under my nails

Expose the bed on which I’ll die

 A bastion made of calluses

Hold the pain at bay

But I lock eyes with you once again

And feel the ache in my veins

 Lost inside, losing time

Younger minds wishing the body to die

Wearing thin

The frail ways we justify

What we are reaching for
