Lately

Wrapped up and stowed I hideaway

Safe from dim lit Saturdays

Safe from telephoned goodbyes

Long time gone

For so long it grew in me

To strip away the urgency

And let days roll slowly by

 

But lately I’ve been pacing down the hallways of my mind

There is no dignity in the willingness to bid yourself goodbye.

 

Forlorn and worn you saw me be

Head full of dreams and prophecies

An ornament of my delight

But I was alone

Free to roam and silently

Believe in those who lie to me

Riptide and wild eyed from the life.
