The golden light of dawn so bright

Peaked through the blind and onto

Your little face I wondered what

The future will bestow you

The teeth of time, sharp and white

Are chewing on my back

What does it dream of?

Hail pelting down on tents, stars long dead

Newcastle all aglow, the hum of the traffic low

Ice sheets shifting slow, kites in the summertime?

Someday you’ll ask me what I did

When they killed lough neigh

The truth is I’ve only been, concerned with my own wee life

With making a quid or two, or three on a good night

The truth is we fucked it up, and every inch of it

To get it back
