There's nothing here in the vastness

It's 3 a.m. and we're alone

There might be many more here

How would I know?

At six years old, we knew each other

Holding hands on a trip to the zoo

Never losing one another

But now I do

Carry on with the pace I know so well

Figure out how to get on by myself

How can I see what we're trying to do

When all I want is to be close to you?

There's nothing here at the deep end

We're rattling on a desert road

We should've made a hard turn at the crossroad

We're ten years old, and changing over

When fun and games won't get you through

For the astronauts and rockstars, there's work to do

Carry on with the pace I know so well

Figure out how to get on by myself

How can I see what we're trying to do

When all I want is to be close to you?

Even if I could, wouldn't know how

Make what's past into what is now

I'd be flying over fences if I knew how to reach out

I'd be jumping down the stairways if I could somehow reach out
