I wanted to have a house

Full of bird life

So I went out

Bought feeders

Bags of seed

Hooks and chains

And hung them all around the yard

Just outside of every window

Cardinals

Sparrows

Goldfinch

Juncos

Flickers

Waxwings

Titmouse

Buntings

Filling up my heart again

I wanted to have a house

Full of plant life

So I went out

Bought planters

Starts and seeds

And bags of soil

Put them out in every room

In the corners of the light

Jade Tree

Philodendron

Hydrangea

Tradescantia

Pye weed

Rose of Sharon

Night-bloom cereus

Aloe vera

Portulaca

Vermillion

Spathiphyllum

Oxalis

Terra cotta

Filling up my heart again
