Across the Dark Night

Oh sweet Lord, I tremble in fear,

While the hour grows late

and shadows draw near.

I lie awake and burn up the night,

As I hold my heart up to your fiery light.

I have wandered through the passage of time

Lost in a circus of passions and wine.

Like a wayward child I stand at your door,

In want of your open arms and nothing more.

Oh sweet Lord, you've stripped my disguise,

Broken the spell and opened my eyes.

No more can I live in a world of pretend,

When so near I am to my long journey's end.

I have looked for heaven under the sun,

Blinded by wonders that vanish to none.

I am ready to be consumed by your fire

A love everlasting is my sole desire.

Where else would I go,

Who else would I turn to,

When I know in my heart

All things begin and end in you.

Take my hand and show me the way

Across the dark night to the new light of day.
