God, Gold, or Glory

There's a pistol Hid beneath the leaves Of that crooked ole oak tree Leaning over Wild Turkey Creek Bout half a foot deep With a Bible and a secret little letter But between you and me I can tell you what it reads It's about a man's life story titled God Gold or Glory Well he grew up in a little Texas town His family was poor 'til his cousins found Texas tea in the desert seas out west When he turned 13 his mama gave to him A gold cross necklace and she said to him "This cross is a reminder of the good Lord up above" Because one day You'll have a choice to make Between God gold or glory son When he turned 18 he went to find his glory Fighting freedom wars in the US Army And he quickly found that freedom's worth dying for too But 5 years in he'd had his share of glory He got a 9-5, on the 24th story But corporate gold Couldn't fill the hole inside his soul Until one day He remembered Mama tell him You choose "God, Gold, or Glory son!" Gold and glory left him empty like they always do He had one last option to turn to So he got on his knees and prayed Lord show me what to do In the next 5 years he found true joy in life Got married, had a family with his beautiful wife And built a home just off the bank of ole Wild Turkey Creek And in his final days He wrote this letter saying You choose God, Gold, or Glory son Woah, woah God, Gold or Glory son
