Standin' by the door, kissin' my wife goodbye

Headed out on a east Texas run

She looked at me and smiled

Said, "I know you gotta leave

But honey, when are you comin' back home"

I said, "This is all I know

I'm gonna try and hurry home

Diesel smoke in my blood"

Then I thought back to when I was young

Standin' at the door with my old man

I said, "Dad, I know you gotta leave

But when you comin' back home?"

He said, "Just as soon as I can"

Well, I didn't know

Until I was grown

That he had that same damn white line fever

Passed it on to his only son
