Hunting or Hunted

Walking down a ridge one night

Cured grass and ponderosa pine

The light had nearly faded from the sky

I heard a noise come from behind

I turned around just in time to find

Three glowing sets of eerie eyes

Oh, are you hunting or are you hunted

Sometimes it can be hard to tell

While you’re watching over your shoulder

Somebody might be watching you as well

The seconds seemed to open wide

Adrenaline, fear and flight

And I knew I wasn’t getting home without a fight

I reached down for my side

The cold and the steel and the grip felt nice

I raised it up and took my aim and fired

Oh, are you hunting or are you hunted

Somebody might be watching you as well

The muzzle flash was bright

But the warning shot didn’t work out right

I am the object of this creature’s appetite

Last chance to survive

I stepped and strode straight towards the lions

I waved and yelled and chased them out of sight
