i saw the great patterned woodpecker sitting on the tree outside my window

he painted a picture using the leaves of his beloved weeping willow

the great patterned woodpecker turned to me, said, “take all your empathy and put it in my

wings, i’ll paint a dream from it”

the great patterned woodpecker turned to me, said,

“i am the painter of your dream

i paint your cheeks like a rose

your eyes like clover

for your skin, i use my softest brush

so, you feel like heaven to your lover”

i saw the great patterned woodpecker, he sat down at my arm, and i asked him,

“what does it take for me to become a dream painter like you?”

he said, “i can teach you how to paint

how to find a nearby tree

where you can dream away the pain

with me”
