ADDY / MICHAEL VO:
How much longer?
How much is a while?
That’s forever. I can’t wait forever.
How much longer now?
MALLIKA:
Sometimes waiting is so, so hard. Time stretches out and out and while you try to be patient, your body and mind can’t stop thinking about when you will get what you want.
Tik tok, tik tok, tik tok. Each second feels like forever. The minutes feel like hours.
(Note: waiting music in the show is good. Around 4m 35s)
Waiting is hard, however there are things you can do when you need patience.
Let’s try something together right now.
Look around you and choose an object.
Any object.
Maybe it’s a chair or a pen or a mug.
Or it could be a tree or a flower or a cloud in the sky.
Say the name of the object to yourself.
Now start to notice all the details of your object.
What color is it?
How do you think it feels when you touch it?
Does your object make sounds? Does it move?
Is it heavy and stays in one place like a tree or can you pick it up easily like a pen?
With this first object in your head, let us now choose another object.
Anything will work.
Perhaps it is a stick on the ground.
Or a piece of fruit in a bowl.
Once again name the object to yourself and notice the details.
Is it big or small? Does it move?
What color is it?
What do you think it smells like?
Now comes the fun part – using your imagination! Let’s create a story using these two objects.
If you chose a chair and a piece of fruit, imagine a story using both of these objects.
In your imagination you can add people or animals or other objects. You can create any story you want. You can make it silly or funny or something totally ridiculous.
Here’s an example: Perhaps your fruit – a banana – is dancing on your chair. And the green chair now has red polka dots on it! Notice how you can imagine this silliness in your head.
It's your turn. Take your two objects and imagine them interacting in your head. Enjoy the music and come up with your story! Try to make it a fun, happy and silly story.
(Some music.)
Did you come up with something between your two objects. Hopefully it was something that made you smile!
Now that we have done this exercise together, next time you are having a hard time waiting or need to be patient, use your imagination to create new stories. It will help distract you from the wait, and you may find that waiting is actually loads of fun!
