E.T.

I am an extra, extra-terrestrial

And I don’t belong to this world.

But I find myself fascinated

By this place and its inhabitants.

I’ve been seeing lots of people, the woman and the man,

Squabbling like birds for a piece of the pie.

How can they be so lost? They’re on their own planet,

And it gives them all the things that they could ever need.

They look on me with distrusting eyes,

‘cause they don’t want to share their paradise.

All I wanted was to look around and see

If this might be the place for my kin and me.

All right folks, I get it,

I’m leaving first thing at dawn.

I can only hope that on the next trip around

In a million earth years or so,

That there will be something to show.
