It was a casual Wednesday night

At a bar down on the east side

Went to hear Dan Wilson play a couple of songs

Classic industry thing

Important people up to something

And if you’re not it makes you feel a little small

In a group of strangers they all shook his hand

And it caught me off guard when I got introduced as

Kyle’s wife

And I thought ain’t that something

Sure it sounds nice

But how fucking reductive

And I am proud to be but there’s so much more to me

In this life

Than being known as Kyle’s Wife

And the rest of the night I spent

Entirely in my head

Barely heard Dan play closing time

Logically I ended up drinking more than I intended

And took it out on him

Which is isn’t right

Truly isn’t anybody's fault

But sometimes I don’t want to just be called

Kyle’s wife

And I thought ain’t that something

Sure it sounds nice

But how fucking reductive

And I am proud to be but there’s so much more to me

Than being known as Kyle’s Wife

And maybe that guy just forgot my name

But for the love of God please time next don’t say
