Staring into post-pandemic void

Our abstract future

Got us at each other's throats

I try to reconcile

But you sound like a broken record

You're right, I'm wrong

Now let's get through this stormy weather

The magpie screeches every morning

While I'm trying to sleep

She's just another

Pawn in the greater scheme of things

Crystal night

Gunfight

City burns

You and I

Don't agree

I'm getting older every day

While history repeats

When I go outside late at night

To walk the dog in the evening fog

I look at all the lights coming through the windows

Like walking through a kaleidoscope of small-time sagas

I see an old couple dancing, smiling, reminiscing

And I get overwhelmed by a feeling of vicarious nostalgia

I'm running patterns in my mind

I'm stuck with vicious melodies

Connecting dots, collecting signs

Grinding my precious metal teeth

(Labyrinths amaze me, but I can't deny)

I'll bite off more than I can chew

I'll kick and scream to win a fight

I raise my collar high as I walk on by

I soliloquy with a peaty sigh

That humanity is not all bad all the time

A shadow play throughout my neighborhood

Soothed me, but nothing made me feel as good as the spectacle

That occurred in the last window

You standing there brushing your long blonde hair

Looking very fair

Knocking all the books off of my shelf
