I had a dream you came to me

Ran to your arms in ecstasy

Your warmth, your strength, your love put me at ease

But I saw something between the trees

I went in the woods so I could see

On a table set for two there was a feast

I sat and I picked up my knife

I thought, it might keep me safe tonight

A candle burned, the wind blew out its light

In the forest there was a pack of dogs

I turned around there was François

His face had changed, his eyes glowed red and raw

I tried to say something to him

He cried to me he couldn’t swim

He was drowning in a war he couldn’t win

I heard the dogs and their bite

I tried to run, my feet would not take flight

They tore me up with their teeth
