Houses of brick and of plaster and wood

I've known many

Street names and classrooms and hearts that are good

I've seen plenty

Old city skylines

The dirt roads of my life

Have shown me a world that is wide

But this is my constant

It's all that I've known

It's a place that I sometimes forget I can go

It's the kitchen sink daydreams

The cherry and oak

It's another goodbye and hello

It's my home

Boxes and big trucks have become

A kind of punctuation

Marking close hugs and heartbreak

And the growing pains of separation

New city skylines

The highways of my life

Have shown me more loss than I'd like

But this is my constant

It's all that I've known

It's a place that I sometimes forget I can go

It's the lonely blue nightmares

The cherry and oak

It's another goodbye and hello

It's my home

Sometimes I envy the people who stay

They keep all their memories in a little house

Or a little town by the way

It's a place they can go just in case

Their whole world crumbles under the weight

Of what's new

But I find that solace in you

You are my constant

You're all that I've known

And yours are the arms

That have pushed me to grow

Through the daydreams and nightmares

And memories I own

With you it is there that I go

To the place that's alive in our souls

To the roots of the cherry and oak
