VENI, Creator Spíritus

(COME, Holy Spirit, Creator blest,)

mentes tuórum vísita

(and in our souls take up Thy rest;)

imple supérna grátia

(come with Thy grace and heavenly aid)

quae tu creásti pectora

(to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.)

Qui díceris Paráclitus

(O Comforter, to Thee we cry,)

altíssimi donum Dei

(O heavenly gift of God Most High,)

fons vívus, ígnis, cáritas

(O fount of life and fire of love,)

et spiritális únctio

(and sweet anointing from above.)

Tu, septifórmis múnere

(Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known;)

dígitus Patérnae déxterae

(Thou, finger of God's hand we own;)

Tu rite promíssum Patris

(Thou, promise of the Father, Thou)

(Who dost the tongue with power imbue.)

Accénde lumen sénsibus

(Kindle our sense from above,)

infúnde amórem córdibus

(and make our hearts o'erflow with love;)

infírma nostri córporis

(with patience firm and virtue high)

virtúte firmans pérpeti

(the weakness of our flesh supply.)

Hostem repéllas lóngius

(Far from us drive the foe we dread,)

pacémque dónes prótinus

(and grant us Thy peace instead;)

ductóre sic te prǽvio

(so shall we not, with Thee for guide,)

vitémus omne nóxium

(turn from the path of life aside.)

Per te sciámus da Patrem

(Oh, may Thy grace on us bestow)

noscámus atque Fílium

(the Father and the Son to know;)

Teque utriúsque Spíritum

(and Thee, through endless times confessed,)

credámus omni témpore

(of both the eternal Spirit blest.)

Deo Patri sit glória

(Now to the Father and the Son,)

et Fílio, qui a mórtuis

(Who rose from death, be glory given,)

surréxit, ac Paráclito

(with Thou, O Holy Comforter,)

in saéculórum saécula. Amen
