When I was a child

I played hide and seek

I forgot that you were gone

I thought my mind

Played tricks on me

You’d hidden long ago

Among the rubble and the weeds

In a place called nothing

I used to watch you dive

Break the water’s skin

Watch the river ripple out

And sew itself back up again

Then you’d burst through

Bright as the sun just when I

Thought I’d have to look for you

And I’d find nothing

Now I’m running for the train

Same train everyone is running for

Before there’s nothing

To take you where you want to go

Maybe I’ll find you there

Maybe I’ll find nothing
