I had a radio and a full time job working for the DOT
I had a pretty little girl and when i got home she always had a smile for me we had money for the rent and most of the bills, an extra ten dollars for fun we’d get some 22 shells and a bottle of wine, go shooting rats at the dump
When the lay off happened i was falling to the bottom looking for a J.O.B
I had to pawn my pistol then my baby bought a ticket far away from me
Now the work comes in every once in a while they pay me pennies on the dime so i’m staying at my ma’s and we’re getting along living one day at a time

The furnace busted down and winter was coming, the bank been knocking at the door they squeeze and squeeze ’till the blood stops flowing and your brain can’t bend anymore like a dog in a corner starving to death, i should of took a rocket to the sun
Hindsights twenty twenty and now i’m out of money and the sheriff got me under his thumb

When the wheels fall off and your nothing but a shadow, desperation filling your mind and you walk these streets like an empty window living one day at a time
When i robbed the bank with a pencil in my pocket i didn’t get very far away
And when they sentenced me to life the judge said “mr., do you have anything to say?”
