The Big Sink

Rain upon my rooftop is rain I welcome gladly

Now I’m disposed of working day and the day too has had me

I will listen and although you are not silent, as so many like to say

You fall upon my rooftop and with it make your noise in such a silent way

For I’m not abandoned and clever I am witted

Though the day is gone and spent, another shall be fitted

Though I’ve heard of passing through

I’ve also heard of sinking for the sake of it

And given what you choose to do

As you pass through, I’d be best to let me sink

Streets are wetter, now all your streets are wetter

(That’s probably what you’d say)

Important things you cannot bring

Except those that come in such unimposing ways

And nothing’s touched me quite so nearly

Even though I’m dry and you’re a roof away

Rain upon my rooftop is rain that gathers dearly

Though the day is gone and spent, so hundreds go by yearly

I am one and with me here are thousands

All inspired by you to sink into sleep

Oh nighttime is the perfect place for you and I to have our way

And never meet
