He's made a car payment or two, as it turns out

A good fella

He really is, he's a very good guy, a generous guy

He is a little crazy, he's more than a little crazy, I think, but we all are

About seven years ago, I opened a show for him

I paid $150. I lost a lot of money on that show

My van broke down on my way home from that show

And before that show, I pretty much decided that I was gonna just do that leg of tour

And maybe call it quits, unless something came in really good

'Cause it was really hard in a 1999 conversion van blowing up on the side of the interstate

But I met this guy, and we became friends really quick

First thing ever, he said, "Are you Ward?"

I said, "Yeah"

He said, "Do you like, do you like to smoke weed?"

I said, "Yeah"

And he said, "Come with me"

And that's pretty much it

And a couple of months later, he texted me

He said he needed one more song for his record

"Can you fly to El Paso the day after tomorrow?"

I said, "Shit yeah, man"

I thought this'll be fun, free trip to El Paso

And I didn't, I mean, I didn't expect anything else to come out of it

But we wrote this song, it's the first song we ever wrote, man, it changed my life, dude

Totally changed my life
