LA’s Mondo Cozmo, aka singer-songwriter Josh Ostrander, makes anthemic rock that feels both raw and cinematic. After years fronting Philly bands Laguardia and Eastern Conference Champions, Ostrander introduced the Mondo Cozmo project in 2016 with “Shine,” a breakout single that radiated positivity. That vibe has only carried on in the ensuing decade, even though his sound has widened to take in all kinds of forms: heartland rock, fuzzy indie-rock guitars, a heavy dose of soul, playful aspects of hip-hop production. By turns, the songs might go full-blown triumphant (the galloping “Wild Horses"), find strength in vulnerability and resilience (“Come On”), or just go in search of a good time (“Upside Down,” the funky “Feel Good”). But whatever shape they take, they underscore good old rock ’n’ roll’s life-affirming nature.
