I think because my parents were very strict and because education had been heavily emphasized while growing up, it led me to want to turn against it pretty drastically,” singer-songwriter BoyWithUke tells Apple Music. “I think without my cultural background being so against the more chaotic and unpredictable lifestyle of a music artist, I might not have leaned so heavily into it. There’s something inherently cool about going against the ‘rules’ and the cultural norm to me.
