Rapper Lil Rob has forged a prolific and long-running career as a mainstay of hardcore West Coast Chicano rap.
• The San Diego native suffered a shattered chin in 1994, when he was shot in the jaw. He eventually renounced his gang past and pushed for unity among Chicanos.
• After various releases on indie labels, Lil Rob found success with his sixth LP, 2005’s Twelve Eighteen, Pt. 1. The album spawned the single “Summer Nights,” his first and only Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
• “Twelve Eighteen,” which he has tattooed on his arms, refers to the initials of his rap name, the 12th and 18th letters of the alphabet.
• While primarily known in the Chicano rap scene, Lil Rob has collaborated with mainstream hip-hop artists like The Game, Far East Movement, N.O.R.E., and Pitbull.
