The Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band is a Geman all-instrumental deep funk collective who began life as a recording side project of the Mighty Mocambos. Often called the "world's greatest cover band," their spacy, infectiously danceable sound signature revolves around its central instrument, the Trinidadian and Tobagonian steel pan drum. Largely anonymous, their 2007 debut single on Mocambo offered two Meters' covers, "Look-A-Py-Py" and "Ease Back," and in 2008 they delivered a cover of 50 Cent's "P.I.M.P." infused with a dubwise groove and Afro-Latin horns. The mysterious outfit released their debut album 55 in 2016. 2018's long-player The Serpent's Mouth included a stellar read of Jan Hammer's "Crockett's Theme" and other notable covers. A handful of singles followed in 2019 and 2020. The band's third long-player, Expansions, arrived in July 2021. Three years later they issued BRSB, a collection of orignals, and covers of hits and obscure deep cuts.
