The pride of Geelong, Australia (where he was born in 1974), Adam Harvey has been everywhere. He was a truck driver before he became a country music star, and he still comes across as an easygoing guy at home wherever his wheels may take him. Harvey gained traction in the mid-1990s but frequently harks back to the breezy style of ’70s pop-country, applying his conversational midrange voice to gently twanging singer-songwriter fare. In the decades since he hit the scene, Harvey has always enjoyed the respect of his peers, earning an armful of awards and recruiting some of the biggest names in Australian music for his 2009 duets album Both Sides Now. That led him naturally to a series of Great Country Songbook records, cut with the likes of Troy Cassar-Daley and Beccy Cole. Harvey has also cast his eye to America’s country music capital, recording 2018’s The Nashville Tapes with local session players. Meanwhile, his larrikin wit shines through on albums like 2024’s Let the Song Take You Home, as Harvey celebrates country tropes while poking fun at them too.
