Mexican American rapper Young Drummer Boy makes bouncy West Coast hip-hop that blends old-school G-funk influences with modern sounds.
• He used to be an in-house producer for the AK47 Boyz crew, but he shifted away from making his own beats to diversify his style and allow for more creativity.
• Young Drummer Boy dropped three mixtapes in 2017 (Barjud Ave, High Forever, and Str8 Out Tha 9) as part of a move to reinvent himself as more than just a producer.
• His 2019 album Same Click features fellow Cali risers Rucci, Azjah, and $tupid Young.
• Music runs in his family: His grandfather was a mariachi musician, and his father was in the Mexican rock band Banda Rubi. Young Drummer Boy started drumming at a young age before making beats and rapping.
