Artist Biography
Will Swinton sings as if his life depended on it. The Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand songwriter delivers his lyrics with a raw rasp and all the evidence of late nights spent deep in his feelings. He mentions taking medicine to finally sleep on 2023’s lovelorn “Missing You” and “Better Days” alike—the latter becoming the title track of his debut album—and day-drinking out of pure romantic desperation on the same year’s “Daydream.” Enjoying three singles in the upper reaches of the charts in his home country by the time he was 22, Swinton has always sounded wise behind his years. His 2024 single “Fall Apart” moves along to strains of reverbed guitar evoking the start of James Bay’s “Hold Back the River,” while the lyrics radiant suffering at the hands of his lover. Few young singers would have the natural emotional gravitas to sell such serious subject matter, but Swinton makes it sound like every bit of sharing is keeping him going.
