The Daktaris are accomplished instrumentalists who also served as the house band for the Desco label. Their lone full-length, SOUL EXPLOSION, is a bracing set of Afro-Beat tunes in the vein of Orlando Julius, Geraldo Pino, and Fela Kuti. SOUL EXPLOSION’s incendiary rhythms and convincingly retro atmosphere ignited an Afro-Beat revival among American indie acts in the late ‘90s.
