Artist Biography
Though the nine members of Tartit hail from central Mali, they are members of the fiercely independent Tuareg peoples of the Western Sahara and the music that they play--a hypnotic, fiercely repetitive brand of desert blues punctuated by ecstatic wails and staccato handclaps--bears little resemblance to the more mannered, Manding style of music prevalent in Southern Mali.
