Bold, full-throated vocalist Sugaray Rayford blends the passion and power of the blues with the melodies of vintage soul and the earthy grooves of funk and R&B. Rayford first learned to perform in church. Though his sound changed, his passionate performances clearly connect to gospel traditions: He can sing message songs just as comfortably as songs about good love and hard times. Blind Alley, Rayford's debut, appeared in 2010. 2013's Dangerous hosted a studio cast that included Monster Mike Welch. He made the blues community take notice with 2017's acclaimed The World That We Live In. 2019's well-crafted, soulful, Somebody Save Me, marked his first collaboration with songwriter and producer Eric Corne; it earned a Grammy nomination. 2022's In Too Deep wed neo-psychedelia, retro soul, blues, and funky, gritty R&B. Rayford and Corne continued their working partnership on album number three with 2024's Human Decency.
Sugaray Rayford has also released music as a member of The Mannish Boys.
