Say Hi is the solo indie rock endeavor of Seattle-based musician Eric Elbogen, whose prolific self-recorded output has covered a wide range of themes from vampire concept albums to meditations on loneliness. Initially launched in New York in 2002 as Say Hi to Your Mom, Elbogen immediately established a strong D.I.Y. aesthetic and minimalist graphic design theme that would remain a signature throughout his career. A singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, his lone vision has propelled Say Hi from the very beginning. Following his 2006 highlight, Impeccable Blahs, Elbogen relocated to Seattle and signed with the Barsuk label, which would issue subsequent standouts like 2009's Oohs & Aahs and 2011's Um, Uh Oh. Elbogen, a California native, moved to New York in 2000, founding Say Hi to Your Mom two years later. He also launched his own Euphobia Records imprint that same year as an outlet to release his albums, the first of which was the Discosadness LP. Both that album and its enchanting follow-up, 2003's Numbers & Mumbles, were recorded on Elbogen's homemade PC, and his hands-on approach captured Say Hi to Your Mom's tightly woven acoustic sound in progress. For 2005's Ferocious Mopes, drummer Chris Egan III and ex-Sea Ray keyboardist Jeff Sheinkopf were added to the Say Hi to Your Mom lineup after touring in support of Numbers & Mumbles. North American shows with Nada Surf followed, and additional tour dates with Dirty on Purpose coincided with the 2006 release of Impeccable Blahs. Two years later, the group shortened its name to Say Hi and released The Wishes and the Glitch in February 2008. They also signed with Barsuk Records and took up residence in Seattle. Oohs & Aahs, the band's sixth album, was released in early 2009, having been recorded entirely by Elbogen in his home studio one year prior. The band's seventh album. Um, Uh Oh -- featuring the single "Devils," which appeared on the Scream 4 soundtrack, was released in January of 2011. Elbogen's eighth studio long-player, Endless Wonder, which dealt with the "presence and absence of love," arrived in June 2014. Ever the eccentric, he followed it up in 2015 with Bleeders Digest, a concept album about vampires that acted as a sort of sequel to Say Hi's 2006 vampire-themed LP, Impeccable Blahs. Returning in 2018, Elbogen offered the unthemed Caterpillar Centipede album, whose title referred to the catchy "earworm" nature of his pop songs. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
