Artist Biography
A one-of-a-kind fusion of dance, dub, African, and Middle Eastern music, Saâda Bonaire dedicated themselves to breaking musical and cultural boundaries. The German group's hypnotic1984 single "You Could Be More as You Are" did just that, blending aloof female vocals, a dubwise rhythm section, Turkish saz, and ney flute into something both unexpected and unexpectedly catchy. That single and 1995's acid jazz-influenced "So Many Dreams" were too ahead of their time to catch on with the general public, but eventually Saâda Bonaire became a cult favorite. The 2013 collection Saâda Bonaire and its 2022 sequel 1992 bolstered the collective's reputation for inclusive, inventive music that still sounds fresh decades after it was recorded.
