Artist Biography
Puff Johnson was an R&B singer and songwriter whose soulful voice soundtracked some of the biggest movies of the ’90s. Born Ewanya Johnson in 1972 in Detroit, she signed her first deal with Motown Records at age 13, becoming a backing vocalist for the ’80s R&B trio The Good Girls while still in her teens. Johnson gained mainstream acclaim with the release of the ballad “Forever More” off her one and only album, 1996’s Miracle. Her soothing vocals also appeared on Tupac Shakur’s 1995 hit “Me Against The World,” which was featured on the soundtrack of Bad Boys. That appearance, along with soundtrack placements in films like The First Wives Club and The Promised Land, made Johnson a constant presence in cinemas. Additionally, Johnson opened for Michael Jackson on his 1997 European tour and received co-songwriting credits on several projects into the 2000s. She passed away in 2013 after a five-year battle with cervical cancer.
